Wednesday's Three Word Wednesday

The words over at Three Word Wednesday are darkness, patronize and weaken.

The Path

The voice cries out from the darkness,
Angry and stalking,
It weakens my resolve,
To stay true,
To the path that cuts the gloom,
The tangled webs,
The dark hearts,
The crushed dreams,
The howls yet grow stronger,
And still I walk,
Through the valley of the shadow,
Determined not to stumble,
As the shrill voice patronizes,
The choices,
The desires,
The life,
The very path I choose to follow

It is so difficult to stay true to that path. The demons are always stalking - usually inside.
Great words.

Your words drip imagery. Very intense poem, the tension and resolve come to life.

And you say you don't write much poetry. Love how it builds up

Ah, Thom, this is a particularly poignant and powerful piece of poetry. That very path. Yes!

I love the defiance. This reminds me of 'Invictus' a bit in that regard. Your "voice" rings differently, with less anger.

At least to me...Great write, Thom.

Thanks for this. It's hard to keep to one's own path with so many people insisting that their way is the only way.

I hope you're feeling better!

Damn those inner editors! Ever they stalk us, and never will they leave us alone!

I hope you feel better soon. The flu sucks.

Constructive criticism: Uncharacteristically (it's the flu talking no doubt) you relied on cliches in a couple of places (tangled webs, crushed dreams). But still a good piece!

It's not easy to always follow the truth. There are many hurdles and people to pull us down.

i take it that the voice crying out is an inner voice, the one that you cannot escape and to the resolve to stay without wavering, it all hits close to home.

Many a times I feel to be chased by I know not what!

I just recovered from flu. Hope you did too!

patronising darkness weakens me
Very eloquent description of life's struggles. The dark/light, the good/bad, righteousness/indulgence.
